Conceive Naturally with Naturopathic Medicine
How naturopathic medicine helps you conceive (get pregnant naturally)
Stress may reduce the chances of fertility in a woman. Results from a study published in October 2018 have shown that higher stress levels are associated with lower odds of conception for women (1). Sometimes a simple stress reduction can significantly affect the chance of becoming pregnant.
Many women turn to In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) as soon as they lose hope of getting pregnant naturally. IVF is a process of fertilization where an egg and sperm are fertilized outside the body. However, this procedure is often time-consuming and costly. It also comes with a lot of pressure on the body.
Acupuncture and IVF
Acupuncture improves the chance of getting pregnant naturally. Additionally, it increases the success rate of IVF in many ways.
Acupuncture tends to:
- Improve the function of the ovaries,
- Regulate the hormone levels,
- Increase the blood flow to the uterus and
- Adjusts the thickness of the uterine wall, further increasing the chance of pregnancy. It also decreases stress and keeps the patient more relaxed. It additionally prevents the uterus from contracting. Acupuncture also reduces the likelihood of miscarriage (2).
Natural treatments for conception
Aside from acupuncture, some dietary protocols and supplements enhance the chances of fertility. Zinc deficiency, for instance, is linked to poor sperm quality, low testosterone levels, and an increased risk of male infertility (3). For females, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), a supplement form of cysteine, helps with egg quality. We will work together to identify the leading cause of your fertility problem. Sometimes, hormonal imbalances, as in PCOS or a medical history such as endometriosis, may cause issues with fertility.
Once conception occurs, I focus on supporting you to have a healthy pregnancy and a smooth, natural delivery.
In a normal vaginal birth, newborns encounter their mothers’ microbes during the critical first hours. Some of these microbes are beneficial and promote healthy gastrointestinal development. Subsequently, healthy gastrointestinal development may help reduce future food sensitivities in the newborn (4).
Following birth, we will provide periodic naturopathic visits for your newborn. As part of this protocol, I will address common health issues after birth, such as infantile colic, and support you with breastfeeding. Six months of breastfeeding alone cause newborns to have less antibiotic-resistant bacteria in their gut. In addition, breastfeeding is associated with a reduced risk of stroke and diabetes in nursing mothers (5).
